Service Opportunities Requirements
All second year Confirmation students are expected to complete 7 hours of community service before the first week of February. Service hours are to be as follows: 7 hours completed in at least 3 different locations and/or events. Service project log sheets are to be filled out and turned into the CCD office.* Please note that first year Confirmation students are not required to begin their service hours this year, but are certainly welcome to start if they wish. Below are some ideas for service opportunities:
Church Community
Not for Confirmation Service Hours:

- Contact the Legion of Mary, the Guadalupanos, Knights of Columbus, or other parish groups
- Check the bulletin for service opportunities
- Volunteer for parish events, such as events in the Parish Hall that require set up, serving and/or clean up
- Offer services for neighbors in need such as shoveling, cleaning, babysitting
- Volunteer at local nursing homes, homeless shelters or soup kitchens, such as: Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen @ St. Malachy & Precious Blood Parish, 115 N. Oakley, Chicago, IL. (especially need help on Sundays from 8:45am-11:45am preparing and serving food-parents required to accompany younger students), and Alden Town Manor in Cicero (high school students required to pick up a volunteer packet-younger students need to be accompanied by parent).
- Attend a Holy Hour at the Adoration Chapel on Thursdays.
- Participate in a group or event dedicated to raising awareness about a Catholic teaching or cause e.g. pro-life groups, Chicago March for Life, etc.
Not for Confirmation Service Hours:
- Anything you are paid for
- Responsibilities you have at home, such as chores
- Service hours required by your school or other organization
